CREATIVE ROBOTICS - ROBOTICS & ENGINEERING for AGES 5-8
Build fun and crazy robotic creatures and structures in this one-of-a-kind class designed especially for younger kids! With a constantly rotating curriculum, including the innovative LEGO WeDo robotics system, Learning Resources Wacky Wigglers, and more, students combine listening skills, reasoning, teamwork and creativity as they build and program unique robots and then create an original story to bring it to life. Students and his/her creations will be filmed on FlipCam for even more fun. Students will learn part names and be introduced to basic engineering concepts including work, motors, structure, sensors, simple machines, axels, gears, lever, pulleys and more.

EXTREME ROBOTICS I - ROBOTICS & ENGINEERING for AGES 8+
Beginning students are introduced to the world of robotics and engineering while building and programming using the LEGO Mindstorms NXT Robotics System. Working in teams and through fun and exciting challenges, students learn basic mechanical design and engineering concepts, part names and functions, build the "wally-bot" and "five-minute-bot," ultrasonic, touch, sound and light sensors, brick display and sound effect files.

EXTREME ROBOTICS II - ROBOTICS & ENGINEERING for AGES 8+
Students continuing developing and mastering concepts presented in Extreme Robotics I while building and programming using the LEGO Mindstorms NXT Robotics System. Working in teams, students are presented with intermediate level concepts and robotics challenges become more difficult as they continue as they continue mastering robotic sensors and programming.

JR ROBOTICS TEAM - ROBOTICS TEAM for AGES 6-9
The newest program in the FIRST LEGO League (FLL), introduces kids aged 6-9 to the exciting worlds of science and technology. Just like the FLL for older kids, this program features a real-world challenge, to be solved by research, critical thinking and imagination. Guided by adult coaches, students work with LEGO elements and moving parts to create solutions and present them for review. Students will design and build Challenge solutions using LEGO elements, apply real-world math and science concepts, research challenges facing today's scientists, learn team-building and presentation skills, and develop "Show-Me" posters.

FLL ROBOTICS TEAM #4933 - ROBOTICS TEAM for AGES 9-14
Socrates Center for Learning is proud to launch it's first season of competitive robotics participating through the FIRST LEGO League (FLL), an exciting and fun international robotics program that ignites an enthusiasm for discovery, science, and technology in kids ages 9 to 14. Each year FLL teams embark on an adventurous Challenge based on current, real-world issues. The 2010 topic, Body Forward, tackles the fascinating and timely subject of robotics in medicine. No matter what the child's subject interest, FLL offers an opportunity for engagement. Whether it is by creativity, technology, or research, FLL dares kids to test, explore, or completely change thoughts and approaches for different sciences each year.

PUBLIC SPEAKING I - INTRODUCTION TO PUBLIC SPEAKING for AGES 9-14
Public speaking is an important skill which anyone can acquire and develop. It is also the very best method of overcoming self-consciousness and building up courage, enthusiasm and self-confidence. Help your student to overcome his or her own fears about public speaking! With fun and playful warm-ups, strategies that guide kids through the process of interviewing and speaking to adults, examples of good and bad speakers, the anti-stage fright checklist, and simple debates with non-threatening topics, students bond with other students, learn to appreciate the art and importance of public speaking, and learn the tricks and techniques to becoming a better speaker.
